A portrait is more than just
a digital recording of human life. A modern family that can relax with each other
and touch the warmth & humour that exists between parents and children. A woman
who feels comfortable in her skin regardless of size and shape.  The
successful executive that doesn’t take themselves too seriously…

About Eliot Siegel

Welcome to my website. My name is Eliot Siegel, and I’m an experienced, well-published Portrait Photographer in London. I’ve been fortunate enough to be able to indulge myself in my favourite medium, photography, shooting men, women, children and celebrities for many  fascinating years.

I’ve photographed numerous interesting and diverse personalities and will always be able to look back and treasure the portraits I’ve taken. I’ve photographed Angelina Jolie in the desert of Arizona, Charles Dance for GQ, Tess Daly on Pall Mall in London, Damian Lewis at the Barbican Theatre, Kelly Brook in San Torini, Martin Amis, Gary Lineker, Kate Moss, Janice Dickenson and Sir Georg Solti as well as thousands of faces less known but just as important to me.

I believe there are several critical factors involved in achieving a memorable portrait. The most important of these is the need to quickly make your subject as comfortable and relaxed as possible. A calm, fun, working relationship needs to be created quickly and organically to make the most of our time together.  I am
determined to bring out the best in all my subjects, and I work tirelessly to achieve this.

Secondly, a portrait photographer needs to be able to manipulate any kind of natural light to his / her advantage. The ability to shape available light to create lovely images regardless of the weather means far fewer restrictions, especially in the variable British landscape. Understanding how light affects our physical appearance and how to make it work to our advantage is something that comes with experience, and I’m proud to say that I use every angle and trick, not only make my subjects look as interesting as they are, but also their most attractive.

I’m a Portrait Photographer in London but I’ve lived and worked as a photographer all over the world;  from Paris and Milan, to New York and Madrid, and have been commissioned by magazines such as GQ, Esquire, British Vogue, She, Italian Men’s Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and many more.

Please feel free to also browse my other website to see my Fine Art Photography,
an expansion of my passion for the medium.

I hope you’ll consider letting me work some magic to create images of you and your family that are more than memorable. I’d love to hear from you,

Trust me to tell your story.

The Fine Art Portrait:
The Fine Art Portrait is my gallery of portraiture as Art, in a very literal sense of the word. As with much of my Fine Art Photography, (see www.eliotsiegelgallery.com) I go on little adventures with camera in tow, searching out interesting textures in the landscape, or the magical way that light passes through objects to create something that could only exist for that fractional moment in time. I sometimes use a process known as ‘sandwiching of negatives’, which quite simply is the mixing of two or more images to create one new, completely unique composition. I frequently employ a Fine Art Photography technique known as Polaroid Transfer, and I can achieve at least three completely different effects depending on whether the images are combined organically, manually, or quite literally melted off it’s base. I find that using these methods gives me great creative satisfaction, and my subject gets a photograph that is not only interesting and flattering, but a truly bespoke work of art. I spend a considerable amount of time and energy creating these special pieces, experimenting with this or that idea, until something beautiful and unique is created. Trust me to tell your story. Eliot Siegel The cost of creating a bespoke Fine Art Portrait in Mixed Media is £2,500 and includes one large, beautifully framed print, signed by the Artist: Glass size approx 40 inches x 30 inches depending on the photo. Vouchers: If you would like to purchase a session as a present for a partner, family member or friend - please contact me and I will create a personalised card for you. Cards can be ordered for the price of the session, or the session plus the cost of some prints or product/s.

The Family Portrait: HOME
It makes sense that children feel very comfortable at home, and that photographing them in an environment that they know well, and feel secure in must only be a good thing. Having all the toys and furry creatures at hand make great props and accessories. I love to try all different places in and around the home; the Bedroom, Living room, Kitchen, as well as the Garden, if one exists. I play with the natural ambient light, as flash can be off-putting for some children. Trust me to tell their story. Eliot

The Family Portrait: STUDIO The Studio is that sacred place of photographic worship where we can isolate people from the outside world and work diligently on framing a subject’s character and personality with little or no distraction. Studio is a great tool because we can use specialised lighting to help us create a look that is not only interesting but also flattering. Natural light studio sessions are also wonderful because we are still able to manipulate to our benefit the existing ambient light thanks to it's properties of direction and reflection. The look of pure natural light is difficult to reproduce using electronic lighting, but not impossible. Trust me to tell your story. Eliot

The Family Portrait: PARK
London, Sweet London. Our wonderful Parks are surely the reason that London is such a colossal seat of beauty and one of the most precious natural environments of all the great cities of the world. As you might gather from looking at my photo-galleries of families photographed at the Park, I have a keen fondness for working out in Nature, and I find that families can relax and ‘get away from it all’ for an hour or two, which can create a different general attitude to portraits done at home or in studio. I encourage a lot of physical activity wherever possible; children and adults alike often come out of themselves when in movement, forgetting their inherent timidity. Movement is a plan of action that you can see I exploit in many, if not all of my galleries.
A London Portrait Photographer is very lucky to have so many visually worthy landscapes at our fingertips: Bushy Park, Teddington Lock, Richmond Park, Ravenscourt Park, Hyde Park and too many others to name are background to hundreds of Family Portraits that I’ve taken through the years. Call me and let’s go to a park that you love and create beautiful, natural environmental images of you and your family. Trust me to tell your story. Eliot

The Family Portrait: BEACH In the London area, it’s a bit hard to find a beach, but in Devon, in and around the vicinity of up and coming Plymouth, beaches are beautiful, plentiful, and seriously photogenic. I spend some time every spring and summer enjoying and photographing families on these lovely beaches, and people are coming from all over the UK to enjoy the cool rocky coastlines and soft sand between their toes. As a photographer in London, I am happy to say that it’s wonderful to make an escape every now and again; to work in the clean air and create family portraits that just can’t be done at home in the big city. Portraiture on a beach is like shooting in a studio in some ways; the backgrounds as clean and simple as you choose them to be, and you benefit from the expanse and freedom of movement, not to mention that children always see a beach as a special experience, especially if they are growing up in the city. As a London based photographer, I can be easily persuaded to make arrangements with you to get together on the great beaches of the South West at a mutually convenient time, and make a bookload of memorable beach based portraits of you and your family. See how lovely the mural / collages work in the photo gallery… Trust me to tell your story. Eliot

Parent and Child: The Studio is that sacred place of photographic worship where we can isolate people from the outside world and work diligently on framing a subject’s character and personality with little or no distraction. Studio is a great tool because we can use electric lighting to help us create a look that is not only interesting but also flattering. Natural light studio sessions are also wonderful because we are still able to manipulate to our benefit the existing ambient light thanks to the properties of direction and reflection. The look of pure natural light is difficult to reproduce using electronic lighting, but not impossible. Trust me to tell your story. Eliot

Children's Magazine Editorial Some years ago I went to live in Milan, Italy, to shoot for as many Fashion magazines as would have me. I always shot for Women’s and Men’s magazines, but somewhere along the way, Donna & Bambini (Mother & Child) a very established magazine for Children’s clothing called my agent and requested me for a fashion shoot for an upcoming issue. At the time, photographing children was not a priority of mine, but my Italian agent urged me to give it a try, and I surprised myself by becoming immediately hooked. As you’ve seen in my work, I love to play with movement and energy, and who does movement and energy better than children; they thrive on it! Includes a 1-2 hour photo-shoot at your home or on location / park etc, and a viewing session within 2 weeks after your portrait session. The cost of the session includes my time and experience only, PLUS one large A3 size print (unframed). All of my products; including prints, framed prints, albums, coffee table books and much more, can be purchased separately at your viewing session. Please see my Products & Prices page for details of what’s available to you and at what cost. (Monday-Sunday) £250 per session A supplemental fee of £100 applies if you prefer a STUDIO Portrait session, purely to cover studio hire. Contact Eliot Siegel Photography

Couples Portrait: STUDIO It’s important that a photographer has the kind of character that delves into the curious mind of children and works hard to pull them quickly out of their shells of insecurity. Children's portrait photography in studio is the perfect calm setting that allows the photographer to focus the child's attention so they can be free and respond to direction. In the studio, the photographer isolates his/her subjects from the outside world and creates quite literally a blank canvas. Trust me to tell your story. Eliot

Children's Portrait: HOME It makes sense that children feel very comfortable at home, and that photographing them in an environment that they know well, and feel secure in must only be a good thing. Having all the toys and furry creatures at hand make great props and accessories. I love to try all different places in and around the home; the Bedroom, Living room, Kitchen, as well as the Garden, if one exists. I play with the natural ambient light, as flash can be off-putting for some children. Children's portrait photography is challenging, but the best things in photography are just that. Trust me to tell their story.

Teenagers: With few exceptions, Teenagers hate to be photographed. Adolescence brings with It a myriad of insecurities that all seem to come out of the box when you place a teenager in front of a camera. This is why the personality and drive of the Photographer is so important to the success of a teenage portrait. With a bit of gentle cajoling, the right photographer will create an atmosphere of calm and confidence, which is exactly what is needed to get most teenagers on side and willing to let go just enough to show something that is real of themselves. Trust me to bring them out of themselves and enjoy the experience. Eliot

Couples: HOME & AWAY I use the term couples very loosely, as in this gallery we have married and un-married couples, as well as siblings. As a matter of fact, some of these couples are not in studio at all! For those people who don’t wish to be photographed out of doors, or feel they need privacy for whatever the reason, the Studio shoot helps keep my subjects cool, calm and collected. Trust me to tell your story. Eliot

The Corporate PortraitTime is money, and I’ve got the experience not only to work quickly, but to get the image and attitude you want and need to portray for websites, social media and annual reports etc. I’ll come to your office at a convenient time, and we can shoot environmental portraits, studio type portraits, or both if time permits. Shooting on location / cityscapes can easily be arranged too. You might want to try a clothing change to show a more relaxed image as well as the more classic corporate image. For many years, I’ve enjoyed photographing high profile business-people in their offices or on location. FEES A corporate portrait fee of £550 includes a photo session and a CD / Dropbox link of all the best images from the session processed in colour and black & white in Hi-resolution 300DPI, print ready digital files, (Usually 50-150 photographs). A separate folder of your image files processed at 72DPI optimized for online or website use. Your favourite ten images sensitively retouched as required. Multi-person corporate portrait sessions can be arranged for any number of employees. Please call or email to find out more on: 07768 816 749 or email eliot@eliotsiegel.com

The Adult Portrait: As adults in a contemporary society, we need quality portraits of ourselves for many different reasons. We all know just how difficult it is to take / make an image of ourselves that we love and would happily put on a wall and be comfortable enough with to send to family and friends. Perhaps your Facebook, Linked-in and Twitter profile photo is 15 years out of date and you need a more accurate representation of yourself. Online dating websites are ridden with millions of terrible profile pictures. A little bit of investment could work wonders with your online chances of finding ‘the one’. Trust me to show you an image that you can love, giving you increased confidence whenever you need to use a portrait of yourself. Eliot

The Art of the Headshot: Headshots are not solely the domain of the Actor anymore. I work intensively with Actors and other creative people and bring out feelings and expressions that you wouldn’t necessarily expect from a headshot. I love walking around town or gardens / parks with actors, etc… taking our time and shooting many different scenes, maximizing your possibilities and leaving you with an armful of fantastic image choices that you can use over time and for different projects. Please see my other gallery, Study of Roman Grey, as this is exactly what we want to achieve. Shooting this way is a very comfortable alternative to studio work, and it doesn’t even feel like a shoot; it’s more like being out in the fresh air enjoying each other’s company and having a good chat. Using environmental backgrounds is all the rage these days for actors, but studio shoots can also be arranged. Feel free to make several clothing changes while we are working through our session. The more variation we have, the better your chances of a wider range of usage.

Fashion Editorial This is a collection of some of my favourite fashion editorial images using my mixed media / Polaroid transfer approach to process. It follows my feeling that art and commercial work can be as one. The photographs in this gallery have been taken all over the world as well as in studio in London. Most of these images have been commissioned by magazines in Milan and London, as well as advertising clients. As a Portrait Photographer in London, seeing these images may help give you the confidence to work with an experienced imagemaker who applies every angle and trick in the book to get you at your best. Eliot

Fashion Archives: This gallery is a very condensed archive of some of my fashion and advertising work from 25 years ago to the recent, many scanned directly from the ‘tearsheets’ of the magazines. Here is a cross section of my work from Men’s and Women’s Harper’s Bazaar in Italy, British and German Vogue, L’Officiel in Paris, Telva from Madrid, GQ, Esquire, and FHM and Cosmopolitan. As a London Portrait Photographer, I combine the ideas and processes of editorial fashion photography with real people and real lives. Eliot

Fashion: Sportswear Archives: Sportswear Photography is rightly about energy and movement, elements that I often use in my day to day Portrait Photography work. I’m including this gallery in my London Portrait Photography website so you can see how energy and movement works in a practical sense, and how I apply this same process to my work with children’s portrait photography. Eliot

Beauty: My Beauty Photography gallery comes mostly from my advertising work with various Makeup & Jewellery clients in New York and London. I like to show this work alongside my portrait photography because it reinforces the understanding that to be a competant portrait photographer, one needs to know what it takes to make a woman / man look their absolute best. I use what I need from this understanding, then add elements of character and personality to create not only a ‘beautiful’ portrait of a subject, but an interesting / artful / insightful image as well. Eliot

Tasteful Makeover There are so many great reasons to book a Makeover Portrait session by Eliot Siegel for yourself or your wife or partner. I’ve been a fashion & beauty photographer for many years, shooting for magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, GQ & Esquire. Thanks to experience, I know exactly how to bring out your finest physical & sensual qualities by using light and environment to our advantage, and secondly, understanding how to create the best of your positioning and posture, showing you at your most elegant.(I even wrote and illustrated a book on that subject, called Photographing Women, see it on the Amazon bookstore!)

The Fine Art of the Boudoir Portrait Boudoir photography is sensual above all, never vulgar. I prefer to see women as Strong & independent, with an identifiable sense of self awareness and great body consciousness, regardless of the dress size, regardless of what magazines portray as ‘the perfect woman’. There are beautiful aspects and angles to EVERY woman, and I’ll work my magic to find them for you. As far as magic is concerned, lingerie has elastic that pinches your skin slightly, and it affects everyone, including lingerie models. I have some wonderful tricks that I use every day to remedy the situation, not to mention a very expensive skin treatment software that smoothes out blotchyness in arms and legs, and makes faces appear ever so slightly younger, but NATURALLY, without giving you that plastic mannequin ‘airbrushed’ look. It’s important to me that you look like you. On feeling Comfortable… I’ve never met a woman who wasn’t a bit nervous about doing a boudoir shoot. What I like to do is start my shoot with you in a Fashionable outfit; anything that makes you feel good about yourself. It could be your favourite little black dress with heels, or a great pair of jeans, boots and teeshirt. Once you’ve had your Makeup and Hair done by a qualified and creative artist, I’ll start the photography process by gently guiding you through a series of easy to manage poses and movements that introduce you to the way I work and get you into the swing of the shoot. Within minutes, any jitters will have subsided and your confidence will be restored. Now you’ll be ready and able to fully enjoy your Boudoir experience. We’ll work together as collaborators to create something truly special. Boudoir shoots are for the Ladies (and some Gentlemen) between 18 and 80 and of all sizes and shapes. Fashion shoots are for any age and gender. I use talented, professional Makeup and Hair artists who understand what it takes to get you looking your best for the camera and the most favourable response to light. All the photographs are processed in both colour and black & white. Call or email me with any questions or concerns you may have about doing this type of shoot. Trust me to make you gorgeous. Eliot
